Altinoluk

A Story of An Unsuccessful Sale

A July night in Altınoluk, a small town near to Balıkesir…

We were walking with my mom, and somebody wanted to give a brochure to us. Generally, I don’t accept anything on the street, however my mom cannot say no to students who give something on the street. And that was the dialog on that night:

Boy: Here this is the brochure of Hattusa Thermal Resort; do you want to come as our guest?

Mom: OK, what will I do?

Boy: I will take your name and phone and our boss will call you tonight or tomorrow morning. -Mom gives her phone number to boy and he took note on his post-it note and he adds – Please don’t accept brochures from others because we will gain scholarship after this work completed.

In fact, they didn’t call us to invite after this dialog. It was 2 weeks ago!

Yes he tried to sell a service but there was something wrong. So I put the dialog here. The service he tried to sell is a thermal resort which has thermal facilities both daily visit and timeshare houses. You can buy time-sharing period of a house or you can stay in their hotel. As you see in the dialog he didn’t mention about hotel, facilities, and differences from other hotels around in that area…etc. He was only a person who wants to collect names and phone numbers to get scholarship from his boss. Not an actual salesperson, no bond with your business!

This was the worse situation for corporate communication. Since there are people who are in their holidays and they would not be in same place next year, companies don’t care about them. They are losing a great customer potential with this communication mistake.

If your salesperson doesn’t have any bond or relationship with your company, he will give damage to your brand image with his every movement. In this case, Hattusa Thermal Resort couldn’t get us as customer and also they created a bad image which you cannot trust to them.

That’s a story of an unsuccessful sale and marketing communication from summer holiday…
