Take a Free Coffee Today!

For customers who live in Ankara, Starbucks began to give loyalty card just 2 weeks ago…

That’s the news part of the event. We know that Starbucks sells comfort of third place to its customers instead of a tangible product, the coffee. From this point of view, there is a conflict between their value proposition and promotion. Since this loyalty card gives 10% bonus points from your purchases, it is something tangible that is not related with comfort of third place.

On the other hand, Turkish customers like selling promotions like discounts and free products. Those bonus points can create a new customer segment which consist of promotion seekers. In addition to tangible benefits of the card, it has a good design which represent image of Ankara. We hope that Starbucks launch it in Istanbul also.

As a customer, this card didn’t change my purchases decisions. Since Starbucks is placed its branch in our faculty’s basement floor, I am still making purchases frequently. Being in a university campus is more effective than loyalty card for me, because I am addicted to their products’ tastes and comfort of the place.

If we look at company side, they have really huge benefit from those loyalty card in terms of market research. You can have this card without any registration forms or other application. They gave it in cash out area. However, you should sign up and register online to use card for discount and free purchases. When you sign up to their site, they would be able to easily track your purchases according to hours, days, place or your demographic features. It would be precious database for company.

Briefly, I liked the new promotion campaing of company with loyalty card, I still have questions since their main benefit is being third place. They did it silently, they created good WOMM between friends and without a doubt they are collecting very precious data about their loyal customers and their purchasing behaviors!

P.S: I took my free coffee last week =))

Lights of the City

I should go somewhere else, I know.. But I have all lights of the city just in front of my window.

Some cities seem better far away from the crowd. For me, Ankara is a picture as you see on the top and I like only lights of the city that can be seen from my dormitory room.

I don’t like Ankara because it is boring and not green as my hometown, Bursa. I prefer seasides and green cities so I am waiting for my graduation to leave Ankara. However, from our campus, it seems like a beautiful city with those lights.

I want to talk about living in Ankara and the place where I stay. I think, there is no place to go in Ankara, as whole city, Ankara is not an interesting place for me. But when I look at those lights from window, I imagine that there is sea on the black area at the end of lights and people are enjoying at the clubs in somewhere in those lights. Those dreams make it lively place.

I am staying at a dorm inside of the campus. I have a great city sight from my room that is located at 3rd floor. I have a single room, near to 7 square meters with bed, wardrobe and table. I have too many items on the shelves and table so my room seems crowded. You can easily see pictures, roses, books, cables of my PC, phone and game console, boxing gloves, racket, cosmetics, accessories etc. It is small to live properly. So I don’t want to add picture of my room with numerous items!

You can think that I am a pessimistic person, in fact I am happy at my room and all those stuff. Even if I am living in Ankara, in our campus environment it is not like Ankara. Our campus is isolated from city and you don’t need to go anywhere. So, I came to Bilkent although I hate Ankara from my childhood.

I should go somewhere but not in Ankara, so I stayed at my room at this weekend and took pictures from my window for my assignment.
