Perceive me as I am!

Culture shapes our believes and perceptions, and market uses them for its own benefit!

People are not same as you see them. They have their extended selves which we cannot see from far away. You should know their values and believes to reach their extended selves and inside of their minds. It is not easy to understand, there are so many theories about people and cultures which make it more difficult.


I don’t like academic definitions and theories. I think most of them are useless, sorry. So I won’t mention about Hosftede’s cultural thoughts. Also, after WWW boom, those generalizations about cultural dimensions decreased with globalization also. There is no limit for thoughts, people can share everything about their lifesytles. So, in near future there won’t be any cultural dimensions that would make difficult to understand individuals.

Why am I talking about perceptions and extended self? Because it is the problem of multinational corporations. Although globalization makes cultures more similar, there are still differences in beliefs and thoughs of individuals.

For comparison we can talk about advertising campaings of a company. Lets take McDonald’s. In Turkey it had Ramadan campaigns especially for Turkey, while it has a global strategy. Other examples for those cultural differences are many spoof ads for McDonald’s that criticise it. One brand can create different perceptions in different groups and cultures.

Those spoof ads shows differences in people’s mind actually. There is a black box in their head that we cannot affect it directly. Although company spends high budgets in advertising, it is not easy to manage perceptions even though it is a global company which operates at all of the countries in the world.

I know I should have talked about those theoratical things, my organizational behavior and organizational theory instructors would be mad about my thoughts. But I really didn’t adopt to those cold theories never. Sorry for my carelessness!
